Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 1 pound turkey breakfast sausage
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1 (30-32 oz) bag frozen shredded hash browns thawed
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 8 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk whole or 2%
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • chopped green onions or parsley for garnish (optional)

Equipment

  • 9x13 baking dish
  • Large skillet
  • Large bowl
  • Small bowl
  • Wooden spoon

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13 baking dish with 2 tablespoons of melted butter.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the turkey breakfast sausage until nicely browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Drain any excess fat.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the cooked sausage with the softened cream cheese, stirring until well incorporated.
  4. Add the thawed hash browns and 1½ cups of the shredded cheddar cheese to the sausage mixture. Stir gently to combine.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper until fully blended.
  6. Pour the egg mixture over the hash brown mixture and stir until everything is evenly distributed.
  7. Transfer the combined mixture into your prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly with a spatula. Drizzle any remaining melted butter on top and sprinkle with the remaining ½ cup of cheddar cheese.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 45–50 minutes, or until the casserole is set in the middle and golden brown on top. The edges should be slightly crispy while the center remains moist.
  9. Allow the casserole to rest for about 5 minutes before cutting. Garnish with chopped green onions or parsley if desired.

Notes

This casserole is a comforting, crowd-pleasing breakfast option that can be assembled the night before for quick morning preparation. The creamy cream cheese melds with savory turkey sausage and hash browns to create a dish that’s both hearty and versatile. It’s easily customizable with substitutions like pork sausage or alternative cheeses, and pairs wonderfully with fresh fruit or a light salad.
