Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground turkey 450g
  • 1 medium onion chopped (about 1 cup)
  • cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese 6 ounces/170g
  • cups shredded Cheddar cheese 6 ounces/170g
  • 1 cup whole milk 240ml
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour 65g
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 large eggs

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • 9-inch pie plate
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground turkey and chopped onion until the turkey is no longer pink and the onions are softened. Drain any excess fat.
  3. In one bowl, combine the shredded Monterey Jack and Cheddar cheeses.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the whole milk, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and eggs until smooth.
  5. Grease a 9-inch pie plate. Spread the cooked turkey and onion mixture evenly across the bottom, then sprinkle the mixed cheeses over the top. Pour the egg mixture evenly over everything.
  6. Bake uncovered for 35-40 minutes until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean and the top is beautifully golden.
  7. Allow the pie to stand for 10 minutes before slicing to help it set properly.

Notes

This crustless Monterey Sausage Pie is a versatile comfort food that works wonders for both busy weeknights and leisurely weekend brunches. Its simple assembly makes cleanup a breeze, and you can easily swap the ground turkey for chicken, beef, or plant-based alternatives depending on your preference. The combination of cheeses creates a perfect balance between creaminess and tang, and the dish pairs wonderfully with a crisp green salad or steamed vegetables.
