Method
- Preheat your oven to 350°F.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook 1 pound of ground sausage until it is nicely crumbled and browned, about 5-7 minutes. Be sure to break it up with a wooden spoon as it cooks, and drain off any excess grease.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 8 ounces of softened cream cheese, 1 cup of sour cream, 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, and the ½ teaspoon of cayenne pepper (if using), along with salt and pepper to taste. Mix until smooth and creamy.
- Fold the cooked sausage, the drained can of Rotel, 1½ cups of shredded sharp cheddar cheese, and 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese into the creamy mixture. Note that the cheese may not fully melt yet, but that’s what the oven is for.
- Spread the mixture evenly into a greased 9×9 or 8×8 baking dish. Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until the edges are bubbly and the top develops a golden color.
- Once baked, remove from the oven and sprinkle chopped fresh parsley or green onions over the top. Allow the dip to cool for about 5 minutes before serving.
- Serve with tortilla chips, crackers, or veggie sticks for a tasty party snack.
Notes
This dip is highly versatile and can be easily modified to suit different tastes. For a lighter version, swap the sausage for ground turkey or chicken. Be sure to drain both the sausage grease and the Rotel well to prevent a watery dip. You can even prepare the dip mixture ahead of time and bake it just before serving to impress your guests.
