Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
Extras
  • 2 cups chocolate chips semi-sweet or milk chocolate, based on preference

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Wire rack

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and baking soda.
  3. In a larger bowl, mix the melted butter with the granulated sugar and brown sugar until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until incorporated.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips gently so you can evenly distribute them without overmixing the dough.
  7. Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  9. Remove from oven and allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

These cookies are best enjoyed fresh from the oven, though they can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to four days. For a twist, consider adding chopped nuts or using dark chocolate chips. This recipe is easily doubled if you're baking for a larger crowd. Make sure not to overmix the dough to keep the cookies tender and chewy.
