- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large skillet set over medium heat, add the ground beef and diced onion. Cook for 5–7 minutes until the beef is browned and the onion becomes soft and translucent. Drain any excess fat.
- Add the minced garlic, salt, black pepper, ketchup, and yellow mustard to the skillet. Stir well and then pour in the condensed cheddar cheese soup along with half of the shredded cheddar cheese (about ½ cup). Allow the mixture to cook for 2–3 minutes until it becomes creamy and well combined.
- Transfer the beef mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, spreading it evenly across the bottom. Layer the shredded mozzarella cheese and the remaining ½ cup of cheddar cheese over the meat.
- Arrange the frozen French fries evenly on top of the cheese layer. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30–35 minutes until the fries are golden brown and crispy.
- When serving, consider topping with optional garnishes like chopped pickles, diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, or an extra drizzle of ketchup and mustard to enhance the classic cheeseburger experience.
Notes
This casserole is a comforting twist on the classic cheeseburger, combining seasoned beef, creamy cheese sauce, and crispy fries for a one-dish meal. Feel free to substitute ground beef with ground turkey or a plant-based alternative, and experiment with different cheeses like pepper jack or Swiss. For an extra-special touch, add crispy bacon bits or extra fresh toppings to personalize the flavor. It’s a perfect make-ahead dish that works well for family dinners and casual gatherings.
