Method
- Preheat your oven to 350°F.
- Cook the spaghetti in a large pot of salted boiling water until al dente. Drain the pasta and toss it with a light drizzle of olive oil to prevent sticking.
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef or Italian sausage with the finely diced onion until the meat is fully cooked. Add the minced garlic and Italian seasoning, and season with salt and black pepper.
- Pour in the marinara or spaghetti sauce and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- In a separate bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, and grated Parmesan cheese until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Lightly butter a 9×13-inch baking dish. Layer half of the cooked spaghetti on the bottom, then spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the pasta, and add the remaining spaghetti on top.
- Pour the meat sauce evenly over the layered pasta. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top and dot with small pieces of butter.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden. Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired.
Notes
This casserole is perfect for busy weeknights or gatherings, and it reheats beautifully. Feel free to substitute the meat with ground turkey or a plant-based alternative, and consider adding vegetables like mushrooms or spinach for extra nutrition. Serve alongside a crisp salad, garlic bread, or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.
